The Apito de Ouro (Golden Whistle) is an award that was offered by Placar magazine to the best referee of the Brazilian Championship in 1993 and 1994. The award was given based on scores given by Placar journalists during each match of the competition. The referee with the best average score would be the winner of the Apito de Ouro. In 1993 the winner should have an average score of at least 7.5. It was discontinued because of the low scores received by the referees. Year Winner (State) score 1993 Jos Mocellin (Rio Grande do Sul) 6,66 [award not given] 1994 Mrcio Rezende de Freitas (Minas Gerais) 6,95
