In 1956 FFD created the Divisão Departamental de Profissionais (DDP), that divided the state championship in professional zones, each zone valid both as the first phase of the state championship and as a regional championship. All zones were organized by the DDP, except the 5ª Zona (Norte Fluminense), wich was represented and organized by the Liga Campista de Desportos (Campos City League).
